More about the show:

Wing-It Productions is proud to make up your break-up with its latest original improvised comedy, Dirty Laundry.
Dirty Laundry will use stories and suggestions from the audience to create an original story of a relationship -- the good, the bad and the ugly -- as framed by improvised couples' therapy sessions. Will they stay together or break up? Not even our actors know! Laugh and cringe as we explore the ups and downs of a new relationship every night, with your suggestions.
Dirty Laundry is created by Kaci Boyle (7-year Jet City Improv cast member) and directed by Justin Sund (co-director of our recent hit show, Lovetanic). The cast of Dirty Laundry is Jeremy Brown (Objection!), John Boyle (Election Show), Kaci Boyle (The Irish Wake), Keli Carender (Lease: Seattle's Own Rock Opera), Conor McNassar (The Declaration), Ryan Miller (The Irish Wake), Mandy Price (Lovetanic), and Jen Rizor (Hogwash: An Improvised Tall Tale).
Dirty Laundry performances are at 8pm on Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00 August 6th to August 21st and September 3rd to September 18th at the Historic University Theater at 5510 University Way NE. There are no Saturday performances, and no performances the weekend of August 27-28. Enjoy our concessions stand or full bar. Tickets are $10.

Improvised play mocks marriage counseling with hilarious results

By Katherine Luck
A couple in a counseling session is bickering over the fundamental flaw in their relationship: different noodle cooking techniques. Their therapist tries to intervene, but it's just too ... too ridiculous.
Dirty Laundry, the latest full-length improvised play created by Seattle's Wing-It Productions, puts the audience in the driver's seat, letting usually passive theater-goers decide whether the onstage couple's bone of contention is noodle cooking, kangaroo farming or something equally laughable.

Best of all, each night one "lucky" couple in the audience will have the ultimate influence over the show by furnishing personal details of their relationship to the actors, who will portray them on stage.

Directed by Justin Sund, Dirty Laundry is a wildly different theater experience.

"The whole point is to let the audience feel like they are part of the show," said Sund. "It's not going to be a fight. It's not a bare-knuckle brawl, or bitterness or anger. It's really about the intricacies of a relationship. Ultimately, we want this relationship to work."

Unlike most improv comedy, Dirty Laundry isn't about raucous, zany humor. Instead, Sund decided to start with the idea that in a romantic relationship, a single glance can speak volumes.

"A lot of the shows we do are strictly comedy. Big, in-your-face laughs. I wanted to drive home subtlety and how ideas are expressed without words. What's being said is as important as what's not being said," he explained.

The fairly young cast of Dirty Laundry includes two actual couples: one recently engaged, the other married.

"They're bringing a breadth of relationship experience," said Sund, though the crucial relationships are the ones the audience brings - current as well as past, good as well as bad.

Dirty Laundry is the latest in a string of innovative shows by one of Seattle's most prolific improv troupes. Wing-It Productions, an outgrowth of the 16-year-old Jet City Improv, produced its first improvised play in 2004. They currently present six original improvised plays each year, seven of which have been directed by Sund. His most recent, Lovetanic, combined cheesy TV favorite "The Love Boat" with movie hit Titanic.

Wing-It Productions presents six improvised shows every weekend, including the original Jet City Improv, in Seattle's University District. Additional shows travel to venues all over Washington.

While many theater companies are struggling to stay afloat, "We're actually doing extremely well. I see a lot of theater in this town, and there's nowhere else you can go on a Thursday night and see so many people in a theater," said Sund.

This success is due in large part to low ticket prices (typically $10 per person) and the company's "never dark" 12 month theater season, which offers up a whopping 400 shows per year. This reliable (and reliably affordable) theater experience has attracted a youthful audience; the under-40 demographic that Seattle's mega theaters often seek in vain during tough economic times. Wing-It has even expanded its programming to include improv-based outreach in recent years, offering free classes to homeless and incarcerated kids.

Dirty Laundry runs Thursdays and Fridays, Aug. 6 through Sept. 18. All shows start at 8 p.m. Sund promised the show will leave the audience feeling "energized and fulfilled" and provide plenty to laugh about.

Just like any great relationship.

Dirty Laundry is presented at the Historic University Theater, located at 5510 University Way N.E. in Seattle. For tickets or more information, call (206) 352-8291 or visit www.wingitproductions.org.
